If you majored in Accounting and then went to work at an accounting firm, what would that make you?
If you majored in Information Systems and then joined a data or tech company, what would that make you?
These are the questions I posed to the Cooperman College Scholars Summer Academy on Friday, July 11th. These students, some of the brightest Essex County (New Jersey) has to offer, thought hard, shouted out answers, and still couldn’t immediately guess what I do with my degree in Accounting and Information Systems from The College of New Jersey.
That’s because I didn’t take the traditional path.
After starting out in public accounting at EY and later working in energy data at Bloomberg, I leaped into entrepreneurship and today run Green Quotient Solutions, LLC, an energy strategy and education consultancy, designing workshops that help people reimagine energy, sustainability, and even their own career paths.
This is exactly what I shared with the Scholars as they explored wind energy during my workshop: Your degree is just the start, but YOU have the power to shape your future and build a career and a life that aligns with your passions and purpose.
I feel so lucky to have spent time with the Class of 2030. Their curiosity and enthusiasm reminded me of why education, exposure, and access are so important.
